2018 Oct 6 DC 2nd day

48 years ago we toured the Capitol.  We freely walked into the Senate and House Chambers and all around the building.  Not so today.  You have to have special passes to get in the two Chambers.  There is now a very nice Visitor Center that was not there before.

Entering the Visitor Center this statute is magnificent.
Then into the rotunda with our guide.  John McCain coffin was just recently viewed here.  Only 33 have been viewed in the rotunda.

Below the marriage of Pocahontas.  These paintings around the rotunda are wonderful.
Surprised to see this dog in the capitol.

Below is the hand shake between the Union and Confederate Generals at the end of the War Between the States.

Every State is allowed 2 statues in the Capitol.  It's a tedious process to get one approved and changed and very expensive.  They cost about $1/2 million.

Segway tour below.  That's the way to get around.  So much walking to get around the Mall.

They prefer not to say the front or back of the Capitol.  But to me this is the front facing the Mall.
National Cathedral below.

In 2014, there was an earthquake in the DC area. It did $35 Million of damages to this cathedral.  It seems like they have repaired most of it, but they have a lot of debt because of it.

Below looking toward the front of the Cathedral at the choir loft.

Also, 48 years ago, we were able to just wait in line for a tour of the White House.  You have to get a pass from your Senator many months in advance.
Martin Luther King Memorial was impressive.

And finally the Jefferson Memorial on the Tidal Basin.  It was a great day in DC.
